How to create a poll in Microsoft Teams

Use the built-in Polls app

Microsoft’s official steps are in Create a poll in Microsoft Teams. Names usually show on the results.

1. Open a chat, channel, or meeting.
2. Select Actions and apps next to the compose box (or Apps in a meeting). Choose Polls.
3. Write a question, add two or more options, and send it.
4. People vote on the card. Results update in the thread.

Create a poll in a channel or chat

Built-in Polls is a Forms card. Chalk Polls adds anonymous mode, auto-close with a reminder, a dashboard, a bot command, and up to 10 questions in one sitting.

1. Add Chalk Polls

Install it from AppSource or search “Chalk Polls” in the Teams app store. One click. There is a short install walkthrough if you want screenshots of the path.

2. Ask the question

Three ways. Pick one:

• Compose menu — tap + in any chat or channel, choose Chalk Polls, add the question and options, then post.
• Polls tab — open the personal app or a channel tab and use New Poll. This is also where you add more than one question, turn on anonymous mode, or schedule a send time.
• Bot — in a channel where the bot is installed, type a multiple-choice poll in one line: @ChalkHR Polls poll Lunch? Pizza, Sushi, Tacos Add a timer with poll 2h or poll 30m.

The bot stays simple on purpose: one multiple-choice question, comma-separated options. Open text, anonymous, channel targeting, and scheduling are on the compose form and the tab.

3. Vote on the card

Teammates tap an option on the Adaptive Card. Results update in the thread. The Polls tab shows the same poll if you want a dashboard.

Anonymous polls

Built-in Teams polls show who picked what. On Chalk Polls, toggle anonymous when you create the poll from compose or the tab. Names stay off the card. We still record one vote per person so nobody votes twice. More on the support FAQ.

More than one question

From the tab or compose menu you can put up to 10 questions on one sitting and mix multiple choice with open text. That is a survey in Chalk Polls & Surveys — same app, live results in the thread.
